A good friend is always has a shoulder ready when it’s needed to cry on. A good friend is ready with a listening ear when there’s sharing to be done. A good friend can be counted on for just about anything. No inconvenience is too small and no problem is too great for a good friend. A good friend isn’t afraid to put himself in a position o be taken advantage of. A good friend can be taken for granted. You can always assume that a good friend will be there for you.
What do you call a male acquaintance that spends much of his time in the company of a specific female, romancing her and laying in the groundwork for a possible future together? You call him a boyfriend. And what do you call a member of the female gender whose thoughts and priorities generally center on one particular male human being? You call her a girl friend.
Take a look at the similarities in the names of these two people. Boyfriend. Girlfriend. Hmm. that would seem to suggest that if you want a romantic relationship with someone, you’re going to have to be friend. It would also seem to suggest that until you’ve learned to be a good friend, you’re not going to be a good boyfriend or girlfriend.
